Behavior

As a special education teacher, knowledge of behavior modification strategies has become essential in my work with my students.  I am not a behavior analyst; however, I have had the opportunity to work with several exceptional behavior analysts, school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, and other professionals with expertise in the area of behavior management and communication.  My behavior management techniques evolve from my experiences and training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Responsive Classroom, SCERTS (Social Communication Emotional Regulation Transactional Support), Crisis Prevention and Intervention, and Physical Management Training.  I also draw on my work as a member of a Professional Learning Community in which I have had the opportunity to discuss, develop, modify, and implement many Behavior Intervention Plans for students with developmental delays.  I use what I have found successful with students in the past and I continue to learn new behavior modification strategies as I go.  I have learned most by observing and imitating other highly skilled and dedicated professionals.

I will discuss functions of behavior and highlight both proactive and reactive strategies to address student behaviors that may interfere with the learning process.  You can view videos of my work with Felicity in which I implement behavior modification techniques.
